My poor Sofiya has been through a lot in the past month. As from my other posts, she's been sick and ill all of the time. I showed her to one of my family friends, whom worked in a vet office and they couldn't tell me what it was.
Now she has lost most of the fur on her nose up to her eyes.  Her arms and face are bright red and she itches it often. I thought it could have been an allergy to the wood shavings, so I switched over to recycled newspaper/magazines, which seems to calm some of it down.
She eats normally and will run about, but looks absolutely horrible. No one can point out what it is. Some of the hair is trying to grow out, but the poor thing looks bad. I can't find any mite spray, incase it is that, and there isn't a hamster specialist in the city.I have ruled out mite, because my other robo doesn't have this issue and they were close enough to both have it.

Just looking for ideas for this mess and something that may sooth her skin. I've tried the olive oil trick, but when I put my hand in she gets upset and pushes it away. I'm lost and really would like some advice.

i think you may be right with your allergy idea. My sisters hamster was allergic to sawdust and was pretty bald for a bit but after a few months he had a full coat again..hopefully its just that as it does seem have cleared up a bit since changing the bedding. Since she is still eating and acting normally i doubt it is anything critical so id just keep an eye on it if i were you.

Best wishes

Thanks for the reply. I moved her into the other home I have with her new bedding and she was so happy to have her wheel back. Emma ,my other robo, is quite upset that I switch their homes. But she'll get over it. Sofiya had hurt her leg, but she's not holding it up anymore. So I'll just keep an eye out.

Changing the shavings is a great idea, and also keep in mind that losing hair can mean stress. Has anything happened lately where the hammie might be stressed?

I don't think anything could have happened. Everything is like it was when I first got her. She's running around and exploring more now, but she still pushes my hand away and has lost all of her patience for me. Have to start all over again.
